Moving Timeline:

6-8 Weeks Before Your Move:

  • Contact us to begin the process for us to get your quotes
  • Determine which items you want to take to your new home. Items that you don’t need should either be donated to charity or sold at a garage sale.
  • If you plan on packing yourself, start collecting packing supplies.
  • Check the floor plan of your new residence to help furniture and interior design decisions
  • The best time to make your travel arrangements is now (hotel, flights, car rental, etc.).
  • Keep in mind all many moving expenses are tax deductible. You can probably access them via an app but keep all physical receipts as well just in case.
  • Separate all important documents like stock certificates, jewelry, photos, etc. Medical, dental and insurance records should be placed in a safe place.

4-5 Weeks Before Your Move:

  • Schedule your move date. It’s always easier to change your move date than wait to the last second.
  • Fill out a U.S. Postal change of address form.
  • Close any local charge accounts.
  • Collect items that being stored, cleaned or repaired.
  • Clean up any loose ends. Plan for a babysitter on moving day if you need one.

2-3 Weeks Before Your Move:

  • Have your utilities connected at the new home.
  • Make final packing decisions.  Start packing items you don’t use often.
  • Clean and clear your home, including basements and attics.
  • Transfer bank accounts.
  • Double check for any other valuables around the house.
  • Get rid of flammable items like paint, poisons, weed killer, matches, acids, etc.
  • Drain all the oil and gasoline from your lawn mower and power tools to ensure safe transportation.

1 Week Before Your Move:

  • This is the time to tie up any loose ends. Check through this guide to make sure you haven’t missed anything.
  • Confirm travel arrangements
  • Pack suitcases
  • Maintain flexibility with your plans in case there is a change of schedule
  • Touch base with us to make sure everything is on schedule
  • Empty, clean and defrost your freezer and refrigerator. To get rid of odors you may try using baking soda.
